SAFIR is a computer program specifically written for modeling the behavior of structures subjected to fire. It allows a determination of the temperatures in the structure resulting from the fire and, in a subsequent analysis, determination of the successive positions of equilibrium of the structure until collapse. The main hypotheses, the possibilities, and the limitations of this program are presented in this paper, as well as a limited number of examples. The equations are given for the determination of the temperatures in the structure, as well as for the truss, the beam and the shell finite elements used in the step-by-step mechanical analyses that can be performed after the thermal analysis.
