Analysis of Vierendeel Frames for Deflections

Abstract

A quick and simple method is described herein for the solution of deflections in symmetrical vierendeel type structures such as multistory one-bay frames and vierendeel trusses. The method takes shear and flexural effects into consideration. A solution for moments, that can be conveniently utilized in the evaluation of deflections, is also briefly described. The deflections are solved for by use of two factors: one factor is associated with fixed end momentsin chord elements, and the other is related to the distributed moments at both ends of the element.
